League Cup - St Dogmaels 6 v 2 Felinfach

Proud but relieved! Those were the two words that manager Dave Dalton used to sum up this League Cup Quarter Final against 1st Division leaders St Dogmaels when the tie should never have been allowed to go ahead in the first place on an abomination of a playing surface that will surely take weeks to recover.

Proud in the fact that his youngest ever starting 11 where no fewer than 7 players were all aged 18 or under were never once overawed and made St Dogmaels battle all the way for their victory. The hosts were first to admit the game should have been called off earlier in the day to prevent Felinfach from travelling the 30 miles down the coast and also that the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game.

To try and analyse this game in too much detail would be unfair as it was a playing surface that few teams will ever encounter again. Credit where it is due mind as both teams did their very best to play the game as it should and maybe if it wasn't for a number of unsurprising defensive errors then this would have ended a much closer affair.

Relieved insofar that only a miracle prevented any serious injuries to the young and inexperienced Felinfach squad who were without a number of established and experienced first team regulars for this tie. That said there are injury concerns over youngsters Lee Forrester (ankle) and Jamie Owen (hamstring) that the conditions had a big part to play in. Indeed with the game still only 3-1 to St Dogmaels Felinfach had to complete the final 25 minutes with only 10 men with all substitutions being made.

Finally a word of praise for everyone of the players who agreed to take part in this match that should never have been. Fantastic effort all round and the gaffer is proud of you all!! Everyone of this squad of players will also be in next weeks squad of 14 in the 2nd round home tie against Aberporth Res in the South Cards Cup. |
